Administering and Storing Remedies

The dosage frequency of potentised remedies (homeopathic and anthroposophic) is more important than the quantity of each dose.

Dispensing potencies with a Southern Swan label

10 drops per dose from about 9 years old to adult. For children younger than 9 years old give 1 drop per year of age.

Succuss the remedy – hold the bottle upright and quickly extend your arm above your head and then let it down gently. The contents will swirl in the bottle. Repeat this motion 3 times.

Take the remedy straight on a spoon or dispense it in water to dilute the alcohol flavour. It is acceptable not to drink the full amount mixed with fluid; one sip or gulp equals a dose.

Dispensing potencies with a Sea Salt Label

C potency label

6C, 12C and 30C Potencies

Instructions are the same as above.

LM potency label

0/1, 0/2 etc Potencies

These are known as LM potencies or Q potencies.

The remedy can be taken in the same way as the other remedies however the activity can be enhanced when the instructions below are followed.

Succuss the remedy in the same way as mentioned above. Dispense 12 drops into ¼ cup of water, gently stir, and administer a teaspoon of this mix for the first dose.. When subsequent daily doses are prescribed, cover the dilution for the day and return to it for administering subsequent doses. Stir it with a clean spoon before each dose. Make a fresh mix each day.

Instructions for lactose coated pillules (globules), as well as powders and tablets are written on the labels or specific to a prescription.

General notes on administration and storage

By leaving the dose in the mouth for a little while the remedy can be absorbed into the blood stream via the mucus membranes. The label generically says to dose 15 minutes before meals, but use your common sense. Essentially when the mouth has food or strong left over flavours such as coffee and mint (including in toothpaste) they can interfere with the absorption of the remedy.

It is also best if each remedy is taken separately once you feel that the other has left the mouth. When taking 2 doses a day and unless stated otherwise in the prescription, I suggest as a guide that the remedy is taken first up on waking or a little later in the morning once any stronger substances have been rinsed well.

Remedies last for many years stored in a dark cupboard, the cooler the better. Consistent or prolonged exposure to light and radiation including beside a mobile phone and in a refrigerator, will eventually overpower the activity of the remedy.
